The Safety Medic’s (EMT-Basic) role as a Safety Officer is trained in multiple aspects of offshore and land based operations to take on the responsibilities as listed:
- Safety Meetings Conduct and/or participate in all the Pre-tour Safety Meetings and all Pre-job Safety Meetings with Contract crew and third party crew, ensuring that all personnel involved in the activity know and understand what will be taking place. Keeping an accurate record of personnel attendance and safety topic covered for each meeting. The JSA’s (Job Safety Analysis) that are reviewed and/or written at the meetings are recorded and new or revised JSA’s are entered in computer database for future reference.
- Orientation new personnel and/or visitors to the location. Maintaining accurate records of personnel including SSE (Short Service Personnel) status, personnel roster, spread sheets with addresses, personal family contact person and phone number, years experience in the oil and gas industry, any certificates they may hold (Well Control, H2S card, CPR, etc.), and date of removal from SSE Status.
- Permitting Programs Handle and maintain on file current Client’s Permitting Program, including with metering device for presents of ample oxygen and absents of any gases that may be harmful to employees. These permits would include but not limited to Hot Work, Lock-out and Tag-out, Confined Space, Toxic and Non-toxic Waste Disposal, and any other permitting form that may be used by our client.
- Accident Reports Preparing accidents reports and ensuring that they are distributed to the correct authorities without delay once they have been proof read and okayed by the client Supervisor on site.
- Accident Investigations conducting and/or assisting in accident investigations, including Root Cause Analysis and JSA upgrade. Results of the investigation, root cause and JSA upgrade would be presented to the client supervisor for approval, as would the accident report before faxing to proper authorities.
- Monitor Drug Usage Both Prescription and Over The Counter Drug and recorded on a spreadsheet then turned in to the client supervisor and the contract supervisor.
- MSDS maintain and update all MSDS Stations on location and make available to all personnel (client, Contract, third Party and Visitors). Establish a Quick reference Chemical Sheet to be posted at the hopper and drill floor area. This sheet should have the chemical name, appearance, odor, color, ratings, primary route of exposure, emergency and first aid procedures, and proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when handling.
- Audits and walk Arounds perform rig or vessel audits at the Client Supervisor’s discursion and frequently walk around to ensure personnel and equipment are within compliance with client’s policy and procedure along with OSHA and MMS (Offshore) standards.
- Tracking Tracking of rental equipment and personnel.

Our Safety Medic’s (EMT-Paramedic) role is the same as the EMT-Basic with the difference that they are equipped with an advanced medical protocol. They are equipped with BLS and ALS drugs, Defiberator (w/monitor and pacer), this application is strongly recommended when the job site is located within one hour or more from a local Emergency Medical Service, remote areas with hazardous environments (high altitude, severe cold or hot regions, terrain factor, and wildlife (snakes, spider, etc.), whereas with the EMT-Basic we suggest the availability of an EMS Service within fifteen to thirty minutes away. Our EMT’s are controlled and governed by a Company Protocol (reviewed and upgraded yearly) and a Medical Director, a copy of our protocols can be reviewed by request.
Our Administrative Assistant, is designed to assist the Client Representative, more so in the fashion of Clerical Duties. Their job criteria can be discussed and tailored to fit the need of our client and the job site.
Our Safety Administrative Assistant, is designed to assist the Client Representative with clerical duties and take care of the safety on site. The safety aspects of this position are the same as the Safety Medics, only they are not of the medical capacity. This service is recommended in areas where a local EMS service is within five to ten minutes away from your location. For twenty-four hour coverage you could combine the services of a Safety Medic and a Safety Administrative Assistant, depending on the sensitivity of the site. |
